Victorian Bloom Drops

Crafted in the late 19th century, the Victorian Bloom Drops are a rare example of the bloomed gold finish popular between 1870 and 1890. Each earring is formed in warm 14k yellow gold with a platinum bezel surrounding an old European–cut diamond, creating a luminous focal point against the softly matte surface.

The bloomed finish was achieved by dipping the gold into a boiling mixture of acid, saltpeter, salt, and water — burning away surface alloys and leaving behind a thin skin of nearly pure gold. This layer is covered in microscopic pits that create a velvety, peach-skin sheen unique to the era. Paired with the antique diamonds’ gentle fire, the effect is quietly radiant and deeply romantic.
